Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Artichokes can be pretty tough to grow, especially in our part of the world. Still, somehow Timmy Perilloux has managed to pull it off and is now bringing fresh Louisiana artichokes to our Tuesday and Saturday Markets. Better yet, the Brandhurst's, Fonseca's and Gerica's are catching plenty of crabs right now thanks to the warmer temps we've enjoyed in recent weeks, which means they have sweet, delicious claw meat for seafood stuffed artichokes!

Tuesday Market, April 19, 2011 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

Usually Frances Chauvin (a.k.a the Pie Lady) joins us at the Tuesday Market every other week, but with the holiday weekend approaching, she's making a special appearance this Tuesday. Ms. Chauvin brings an impressive selection of pies to the market year-round (pecan, apple, sweet potato...). This week she'll also have Ponchatoula strawberry pie for those who get to the Market early enough to score one.

green plate special

Domenica's Chef Alon Shaya is back at the Market this week with the Monica's beet and goat cheese ravioli with favas and Smith's Creamery butter, blue crab and spring onion frittata with Covington greens and radish, almond crusted puppy drum with Jim Core's kale, cream and tender herbs, and Lisa's blackberry and mascarpone crostada.

Thursday Market, April 21, 2011 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

A huge thank you to everyone who participated our first Crescent City Supported Fisheries CSF program. Just in time for Good Friday, final shares can be picked up at this week's Thursday Market. Those who missed out this go-round, become a fan of Crescent City Supported Fisheries on Facebook for information on upcoming CSF subscriptions and other local seafood related news.

Saturday Market, April 23, 2011 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

The Market is in full bloom right now. In addition to colorful mixed bouquets from Lucy Capdebosque and Shirley Randon, Keith Kron has gorgeous orchids, bromeliads and other rare tropical plants. Clusters of Jim Mizell's bedding plants also make beautiful centerpieces with much longer life spans once planted in the ground.

Recipe of the Week

We're already dreaming of waking up to these Stuffed Strawberry Muffins Sunday morning. Don't forget to pick up strawbery jam from Anita deBoisblanc in addition to fresh Louisiana strawberries for the filling.
