Over 20 years ago, Richard McCarthy, Sharon Litwin and John Abajian brought together the very first Crescent City Farmers Market. Since that fateful Saturday morning, we’ve come a long way. We’ve opened more markets, made delicious local food available to more people, and helped markets across the country grow, all while maintaining our roots. Like the market, Richard has always stayed true to his goals of building communities around a love of food, tradition and health. We welcome Richard, the current Executive Director of Slow Food USA, back to the CCFM this Saturday along with another very special guest: Edie Mukiibi, Vice President of Slow Food International, as part of Slow Food's Good News From Africa Food Sovereignty Tour. Join us for coffee as we talk about some of the most pressing food issues facing our society.

Lauren Talbot!

Every now and then, we come across dedicated market shoppers who take eating locally and supporting local farmers to another level. Well, our dear friend Lauren Talbot has gone above and beyond! Our organization has experienced the wealth of her personality at every market we offer. Our appreciation is through the roof because she was magnanimous enough to take time from her busy schedule to do outreach with us at our Wednesday Market in the French Market. She handed out satsumas, shared information about our Market Match food stamp incentive program, and expressed her passion for eating fresh and local, all with her shining smile. Much love, Lauren! Thank you for all that you do.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

Frencheeze pulled up in style last week to kick off this month’s Green Plate Special. Within minutes of their arrival, the Frencheeze crew was whipping up decadent sandwiches fit for a king! Tuesday market runs until 1pm, so stop by for lunch and groceries when you get a chance! Check out their website for their full menu.

Recipe of the Week

Nothing says autumn like a warm bowl of soup. Apples and cushaw are two fall flavors that find blissful harmony when combined in a large pot. Many of our vendors have a wonderful variety of squash and pumpkins. Last week our friends from Press St. Garden, the garden at NOCCA, had a behemoth pumpkin that weighed over 20 pounds! That’s a lot of soup.
